Article - Initial Once-off Search Engine Optimisation
Initial optimisation occurs roughly one week after your website goes live. We allow for this one week window in case there are changes and adjustments to be done to the new website.
Your website could take anything from 2 weeks to 3 months to rank. How long a website will take to rank is only known by the developers of the search engines themselves. This secrecy is necessary to protect the integrity of their Search Engines; if they make this information available to the professional community then they open themselves up to search engine spamming. Many guidelines are, however, available to Search Engine Optimisers and we use every honest method out there.
The amount of time that it takes for a website to be indexed by search engines depends on the following factors (to name but a few):

How competitive the keywords are.
For example because a business name is often unique it will usually rank faster than the service your company provides. |

Longer terms also rank more easily than 1 and 2 word combinations.
For example, the phrase “website design Pretoria South Africa” will rank more easily than the term “website”. |

The usefulness of the website.
Its about content, content, content. Usefull additions to your website content increase rankings. We do - however - have to be very careful that the content we place on a website does not border on “spamming”. Search Engines have recently become stricter on companies that have less than honourable optimisation techniques. Our company’s optimisation policy is that of conservative and steady development to avoid search engines throwing out a “suspiciously successful” website. |
If you are targeting non-competitive 5 word term keywords then a once off SEO package will suit your website. For example if you provide a niche product in a specific/small area it is less likely that you have many competitors for those keywords. If this is the case then you would easily be able to rank higher for those key phrases because of the lack of competition. If you provide a common service in a larger area then you will need more in-depth optimisation.
Your competitors may have webmaster that optimises their websites on a monthly basis. So you would have to ask yourself this question: If you optimise your site one time where do you think you will rank in comparison to websites which are optimised on a monthly basis?
Once-off optimisation involves submitting your website to search engines such as Ananzi, Aardvark, MSN, Yahoo and Google. This is the key to being indexed or “visible” on these Search Engines. It does not necessarily mean that you will be ranked in the top 10 search results. Most search engines use customized search functions so we utilise generic optimisation techniques to appeal to a broad range of search parameters.
