Mail Setup in Outlook Express

Please note your username is your e-mail address.
Once you have set up a hosting account with us and specified your desired address for your e-mail account, the next thing you will need to do is set up an account in your e-mail client to send and receive e-mail. An account in this context is a profile containing all the required settings and information to be able to send and receive e-mail with our server.

Open Outlook Express, and click on the menu titled Tools, and click on Accounts...

Click on the Add button, and choose Mail.

This starts up a wizard, which will ask you for the following things in turn:

  • Your name - simply what you wish to appear as your name in e-mail messages.

  • E-mail address - the e-mail address you have requested/been given.

  • E-mail server names - Choose POP3 from the first list, and set both the POP3 & SMTP server to the server given in the welcome e-mail we sent you.

The incoming and outgoing mail server must be the same!
Your incoming server is mail.yourdomain.com or mail.yourdomain.co.za etc

  • Account name/password - your username: this will have been supplied in the e-mail we sent you.

Click on Finish. Now, select the account you have just created and click on Properties.

Now click on the Servers tab. Near the bottom of the window you will see the option for My server requires authentication. Put a tick in the box next to it.

Click on OK, then Close, and you’re done! You should now be able to send and receive e-mails with your new account. Take some time to test your e-mail now.
Note: These instructions are based on Outlook Express 6 - details may differ for other versions.

Although Outlook is the default Windows e-mail client, there are many others out there (most of them are free or shareware), all with their own pros and cons. Setting up your mail account differs slightly from the instructions above in each client, but you should find details in the program’s help file.
